Meet Xena, Our Newest Rescue!
Xena is a twenty-something Appaloosa who has not been getting enough to eat
Xena currently lives in a pasture with a lot of other horses. Because Xena is one of the lower horses in the herd, she is not getting enough hay to eat. Xena’s current owners are not in a position to give her extra food, so they have generously agreed to donate her to the California Riding Club.
The California Riding Club has spent the last month getting to know Xena. We visit her at her current ranch daily with a nutritious blend of feed along with a portion of alfalfa. Xena is already gaining weight and has connected with members of the riding club. The Riding Club is on track to move her from her current ranch to her forever home beginning of February, 2024.
Although Xena is an older horse, she still has a lot of life left in her. The California Riding Club will give her a purpose while providing a soft place for her to land. As the newest member of The California Riding Club herd, Xena will teach safety, leading, haltering, grooming, nutrition, parts of the horse, horsemanship and showmanship. Xena will also be used for light riding (walk/trot only).
We hope to take Xena to the 2024 4-H Classic Horse Show where she will compete in showmanship classes.
